If you are thinking of starting a website – you will find that most experts recommend that you center your site around one topic.
This is pretty hard to do – especially if you are starting a blog where you plan to share your worldly experiences.
After all, we are multi faceted individuals – and writing about one subject day in and day out can get kind of boring.
Unfortunately, if you plan to make money from your website – the one topic approach is what works best.
Here is a prime example.
Many people start off monetizing by using a contextual ad program like Google Adsense.
These ad programs read the text on your site to figure out what your site is about. Then they process this information and provide ads that relate to that info.
Theoretically, the ads will appeal to your audience because that is what you are writing about.
So today, I wrote a post for my computers and technology site about pumps. To be specific – it was about a printer error that showed up on my hp printer this morning about a faulty pump.
So, of course, I had to share the solution with my readers.
But those little crawl spiders from my ad program – they saw the word pump and served up ads for hydrolic pumps, and other pump related equipment used in construction projects.
Will my readers be interested enough in these ads? Most likely not – unless, of course, there happens to be a builder out there that is having trouble with his or her hp printer.
Stranger things have happened.
But you get my meaning.
Tighten up your niche – and write for both your audience and the spiders.
