Really – can you talk someone’s ear off?
This is actually an asset in the blogging world.
Especially if you are just starting out.
It is pretty discouraging to post day after day – when you know that no one is listening.
The internet is a noisy place – and as easy as it is to set up shop, it is hard to be heard over the din.
Of course, your voice will get louder with time – and people will take notice. But in the beginning it is tough out there.
Personally, I am kind of a quiet person. And I think that personality trait is a vice on the net.
Over the past few months I have done some extensive soul searching, if you will. I have come to realize (yes - I am a little slow on the uptake) that loving what you do is so important to overall success.
So does that mean that I have to love blogging? Not at all.
What it does mean is that I need to really enjoy the topics that I write about.
For example, I have a site – and I won’t name it, because I really dislike it – I hate it, in fact.
But it is my most well trafficked site. It gets a lot of pageviews compared to my other sites. I am sure you must be thinking that this is good.
But it is not.
In my early days on the internet – I did a lot of learning about keywords and targeting those keywords – still important info. But I used this particular site to test out a few things – and now I am getting traffic for keywords that I really am not interested in. To build the site further – it makes sense for me to continue to write about these things that I really am not interested in. AND I DON’T WANT TO DO IT! Sorry for shouting.
I actually had built a few sites in this manner. Sites that had potential but were draining for me, my time, and my psyche.
Life is short. Do what you love.
So I made the decision to wind it down. Say bye bye to the stuff I hate.
Over the past few weeks I have been building a new site using SBI (Site Build It). I have actually had a few of these sites in the past – but I was so focused on my keyword training from the early days – that I missed the boat on the follow your passion bit.
I will talk a bit more about SBI in the days to come. But because of my decision to let go of the past and move on with a new direction – I have got my gift of gab back.
My SBI site is about a topic I love – and although it does focus on keywords, I cannot wait to sit down at my computer and create more pages. Something that was tedious beyond belief in the past.
And this site – well just look at this post, I can’t seem to stop talking. But this is a blog – and I have made the decision to write about whatever comes to mind – without worrying about keywords. Of course – this new found freedom is not exactly carte blanche. Topic is still very important here.
And already I have some new ideas for future posts!
