Bet I got you there!
Today I want to talk about overall topic – and how important that is to a website.
A lot of people start off in the world of blogging by writing a general interest blog. Basically a site that covers everything that they are interested in.
This approach is not good for business.
Unless you are a movie star.
This is because you are NOT your product. People are not searching the internet to find out more about YOU.
They are using Google and Bing and Yahoo – to search for information on a particular subject. If you happen to write about that subject – they will find you.
They will think you are interesting and that you have a lot to offer.
They will follow your site.
And tomorrow when you write about something completely different – something that they are not interested in – they will leave and never come back.
But if they see your site as a resource for learning or discussing one particular subject then they will return.
This is not to say that you cannot interject yourself into your site.
Each one of your posts can bring in other unique aspects of your life and your experiences. This what gives a site a voice and makes it unique.
Your readers will start to get to know you and will know what to expect when then stop by your web home.
They will be willing to invest the time to read what you have written. To learn about products or services that you recommend.
They will trust you.
My point – stay on topic.
And for the record – this site is about building an internet business.
I happen to love coffee – but you might not.
